The thing I find particularly interesting about so far is how different using it *feels*. It's a lot less "shouting into the void" and more "mingling in a crowded room."

@zachflower i agree. I have only been casually using Mastodon for about a week, and the characterization you detail is perfect: more "mingling in a crowded room."

@fuzzhead @zachflower I love the "shouting into the void" analogy. I have been on Twitter for more than 10 years, and though I have managed to obtain some moderate following over the years, I rarely get into discussions of any kind. Mostly getting those empty favs or RTs.

Only a week on Mastodon, and it feels totally different. Perhaps, due to the size of the instance, but people are actually talking to each other.
