Fantastic quote from Greg Proops from a recent episode of "The Dana Gould Podcast" regarding the current state of the republican party:
"You've already pulled the middle ground out. You can't attack the capital, and then have Representatives that support attacking the capital. And then when there's a chance to repudiate the president, nobody does it, and still have any credibility."

If you suffer from any sort of anxiety this episode of the mental illness harpy hour was especially good:

βTikTok is introducing Americans to a question that Europeans have struggled with for 20 years: a lot of your citizens might use an Internet platform created somewhere that doesnβt know or care about your laws or cultural attitudes and wonβt turn up to a committee hearing.β
It's 2 weeks since I joined Mastodon and I still like it. I guess, now is the time to introduce myself to you!
I'm a guy from Europe, beginning 40's, was always fascinated of computers. I started off with my C64 and soon coded my own little text based game in BASIC.
Using Linux as main OS for years but I'm far from being an expert.
Studying forensic engineering while having a full-time job (computer stuff too) and working with archaeologists in my (always short) spare time π π
Many articles about the Australia-Facebook dispute noted that a large number of people rely on Facebook as their primary news and information portal. Because I think that relying on a big tech entity that treats users as products for advertisers as a primary news source is unwise - I suggest RSS as an alternative in my post.

So, a new day and a new social media experience. Looking forward to trying out Mastodon.
I love Linux though am far from an expert, even after about 4-5 years as my main daily desktop. But I like learning.
My main interests are in the area of tools for writing (Emacs/org-mode, pandoc, LaTeX) and music-making (LMMS and Ardour mostly).
I've also been trying to re-activate my long-dormant programming skills via Python. But, you know, work and stuff gets in way.
Anyway, pleased to be here!
*sadly goes to reset the counter to 0 on the "days since I saw someone shit on the existence of light themes" sign*
I think on average I see this like once a week.
I cannot see dark themes at all. And it's a hell of a thing to see this hostility not just to a software option but to my own existence and qualities as a person who uses this option. Like I've seen people say you have to be a psychopath to use light theme, which is an awesome way to double up on the ableism!

Just a he/him/his guy who likes to build cool things and share them with others.
I know a little about a lot of things, but I've spent most of my career automating things and building systems. Currently I spend most of my time automating things with Python and testing things with the Robot Framework.
I promise I'm much more fun than what I just said.
Oh, and the opinions expressed here are solely my own and do not express the views or opinions of my employer.
