Recreating the hard-copy TTY experience on a more modern dot-matrix printer
If you use ed(1) on a glass TTY but long for the hard-copy printer experience, @email@example.com has you covered:
The Mastodon Twitter account is really unprofessional, and seems like a major reason as to why most of the users there aren't taking this platform seriously.
I'd also argue that another big reason I've seen users hesitant to transfer over or even try this out is due to the overwhelming whimsy scattered through everywhere. We really don't need to reinforce the word 'toot' everywhere.
Also, the decentralised benefits keep being talked about but no normal user really cares about that. Mention editing posts!
@roguelazer Both pam_ldap and nss_ldap have been problematic for a while now. They stopped being maintained at some point. At some point I ran into some brokenness that I couldn’t fix easily and making sssd cooperate ended up being easier.
Mast (the beautiful iOS Mastodon app) is now on sale at 50% off for thanksgiving. Share the love! 🦃🔥
O shit, finally !
Finally you can disable push notification requests for all the websites…
@alan a mistake I made for years as well, using bash over more robust languages. My new rules are simple: do you need real function returns? If so, don't use a shell language. Do you need complex data structures of any type (and it's hard to understand how you could not need such with any reasonably complex data), certainly do not use shell/bash. However, it's not a problem, for we have in fact a fine, heavily tested, Practical Extraction and Reporting Language, stable, reliable, fast, robust...
There should be a moment in every data scientist life when they realize that they spent years learning Python, R, Scala and/or whatever language and framework but the dude working in bash in the next desk deals with larger datasets, in less time without requiring big data tools.
Learn and love bash.
I’m happy to announce the release of my new iOS Mastodon app ‘Mast’. 🎉
CMC is withdrawing from Keck Science. This really sucks for Pitzer and Scripps.
I've heard from reliable sources that this article is accurate.
Trump rambled incoherently for an hour and a half last night. He couldn’t stay on any topic for more than a few seconds and didn’t answer any question asked of him without derailing. In other words typical Trump.
It’s sad that this has become so normal that hardly any news organisation is bothering to comment on how fucking insane this is.
We have a cut price Caligula in charge of the country now and we’re all just numb to it.
This Mastodon instance is for people interested in technology. Discussions aren't limited to technology, because tech folks shouldn't be limited to technology either!
