@mildbeard it has Lua scripting rather than Vimscript (although I think Neovim allows Lua scripting too), also it has support for structural regular expressions. The sam-influenced commands like "<, >, and |" are really helpful to me as someone who uses command line tools for almost everything. Other than that it's pretty similar to vim, but a bit stripped down. If you read the manual for sam or vis you can see what the commands I referenced do.
