@surveyor3 iirc OpenWRT is the goto for routers. I *think* it's Linux-based, but not certain. It *is* entirely though.

@surveyor3 three votes for openwrt. i have an Archer C7 router that runs it like a dream, but YMMV depending on which one you have

@bclindner yes, I red that. If it doesn't work I searched that DD-wrt should have better support.

I've been using DD-WRT for many years. When I buy a new router I will look for one supported by OpenWRT since it is 100% free software. You can also consider Tomato or Merlin (for Asus routers only).
