Am I really the weird one out for finding the whole emoji thing rather ho-hum and boring? From what i remember, humans moved away from hieroglyphics into expressing ideas with language, both written and spoken. It just seems to be pointless to want to go back in the other direction.

Just seems like a really lazy way to express oneself. If a thought or sentiment can be expressed with one of these tiny pictograms, I wonder if it needs to be expressed at all.

@smays I agree, that sounds a lot like the same arguments against what i call "idiotbabble" (those abbreviations such as "ppl" for "people" that make text damn near unreadable). Many times on IRC help channels, I'd say "if you can't be [bothered] to spell out a six-letter word, I can't be [bothered] to help you". And that's how I felt.

Are people who make heavy use of emoji less likely to be readers of books? Can't imagine that data exists but I'd love to know.
