My brother who teaches English in Japan has been making teaching materials so the kids can learn how British people celebrate Christmas.
I think this is a work of deadpan comic genius.

Another thing non-American countries should address is their voting system. If you have a first-past-the-post (aka "winner takes all") voting system, call your representatives right now and tell them you want something better, such as ranked choice

So, I forgot to post about this at the beginning of the month, but I'm participating in . My project page is here: nanowrimo.org/participants/seh

Steve the safety helper for today just said the line was 270 people deep, and most other places are the same. And more people are coming.

Just got into line to vote. My neighborhood has a line four blocks long. I've never seen this long a line for any election. Ever.

Today I woke up and saw someone posting an article entitled "If You Are Not Happy with the State of Magic, Stop Giving Wizards Your Money"

It's about Magic the Gathering, but man. It really took me a minute.

mods posting reports to mock them is a red flag, and more users should be aware of this.

I'm finally listening to the song, and it is a journey

So, today I was at the grocery store, looking for sodium carbonate. I couldn't find it, even though the store's app said it was in stock.

I went up to a store clerk, asking for sodium carbonate. He got on his walkie talkie and said this:

Hey, do we have any sodium carbonated?

i wish people would treat black women better so they weren't forced out of these spaces

we need them here

not because we should expect their work (although actually we do too often depend upon it, which we should not)

but because without everyone, this is not the revolution it should be, and a revolution that does not liberate black women is worthless

Silphium is an extinct plant which once grew in North Africa. In the ancient Mediterranean, it was used as a seasoning, perfume, medicine, aphrodisiac, and contraceptive.

It was the main trade item from the city of Cyrene in what is now Libya. Silphium was so important to Cyrenese trade, the plant was stamped onto their coins. Some of those coins show only the seed pods of the plant, which are heart shaped – and some people speculate this may be where the now ubiquitous heart symbol originally came from 💚
