Don't you ever tell me that error handling in C is totally fine.

This function can return anything >= 0 as success.
Alternatively, -1 on failure, or 0 on a different failure.

@samathy has anybody made such an assertion? c has always had a wild west approach to error handling. when folks moved from objc to swift, _nobody_ talked about how they missed the c-style error handling.
