Perhaps there is no perfect way to convey how absurdly obscene it is that a single person can "have" over a hundred billion dollars.
But "You Are Jeff Bezos" is damn close:
Also, perhaps there is no perfect way to satirize #DonaldTrump.
My little parody of the aforementioned game is definitely not even close:
@djsumdog I have never personally bought anything from any of these, in fact.
Amazon was the closest to get my monies this one time, but setting up an account was such a hot mess of a process that I just bailed before I actually got to the ordering part.
Never gave any of these my monies.
I do recognize that for many these are the cheapest, most reasonable options. Can't blame them. I don't believe responsibility for dealing with late stage capitalism is with individual people making individual choices.
@djsumdog third, anyone who follows me probably knows what my idea of solution is: regulating Big Tech.
Yes, there is danger in this, and yes we need to be vigilant, and yes governments will abuse such power to regulate.
But right now we're being screwed with our pants on by Big Tech and I do not see any other way to fight back. Also, my experience teaches me that this *can* work, if enough people get informed engaged.
@rysiek, by regulating big tech, i hope you mean applying anti-trust the hell out of them. there’s very little a government can do if the corporation has more money (and thus power) than the country gdp. maybe the usa, china and the eu can do something but the rest of the world is still a data mine. heck they even blackmailed individual europian countries.
@cnx absolutely yes, anti-trust the hell out of them. Plus regulations like GDPR (which turned out pretty effective for certain privacy/data security related things), or the coming Digital Services Act which might contain language about platforms as infrastructure and requirement for open standards or something along these lines.
@djsumdog oh wow, that escalated quickly. Well, it was nice knowing you, but I have a strict policy against white-washing (hah) fascists.
This Mastodon instance is for people interested in technology. Discussions aren't limited to technology, because tech folks shouldn't be limited to technology either!
