@sheogorath @bclindner I expect most conversations to use 'you' to refer to me.

Pronouns are used in third person references, so I'm unlikely to see them used here. 'No listed pronouns' means use what you like if ever you are talking about me, I won't be offended.

@dheadshot You're right. I had played it once first on a school BBC Micro and got hooked. It's amazing what could be done with a few kB of memory and a processor measured in single digit MHz.

I grew up playing the original 8 bit Elite on a Commodore 64, so it is weird to be playing Elite Dangerous on my PC so long after. I know the game is 5 yrs old, but I paid £5 and Steam's Proton system has let me run the Windows program on my Linux main computer. Still as addictive as ever though.

@dw The most worrying phrase I the discussion of recent police violence is "five hands ripped off." WTF?!

So I've installed a new Nvidia graphics driver on my Linux desktop, along woth Vulcan, Winetricks, Proton, Proton tricks and assorted other stuff. Ran the Proton script over and over, fixing missing package problems each time. I spent an hour working through some startup/account binding/first-start bugs. But Elite Dangerous works on Linux! Running through the flight tutorial tasks now - graphics are fantastic. Handles rather differently from Oolite. :)

The Conservative government is planning to pay for a massive increase in the defence budget by cutting key worker pay and stealing money from the legally prescribed international aid budget.

They are definitely nailing their colours to the mast.

Famous neolib newspaper ""keeping it real"

@MatejLach @InternetKevin What they need is debt relief and economic support so they can build up an economy that doesn't put families in the unenviable position of needing the labour of their children. What they need is decent jobs and well paying markets for their produce. Knowledge won't replace economic need, I'm afraid.

@MatejLach @InternetKevin I think that these countries already have the knowledge we have about making institutions, but the economical and political environment makes the process of building them very hard.
