i feel terrible seeing headlines about how the 3rd wave is here and lots of people are suffering.

but i feel completely powerless to do anything about it. we're here because nobody would take it seriously in february, and if they still weren't taking it seriously in july, i don't expect things to change in december.

@robey Unfortunately I think this is pretty normal? (feeling powerless and feeling bad). People are very social, even if there are differences in the amount of social interaction & what form it takes. /most of us are wired to want to help each other & get sad when we can't./
If we’re being sensible, we’re all pretty hampered about what we can do to help.

What are you good at? How can this skill be used to help others?
Do you have enough spoons?
Would meds potentially help you with a low-spoon count?

@robey …is maybe the best thing you can do right now is to donate $ to people that need help? (would feedback on how your donation is helping make up for some of the feeling you would normally get from helping more directly?)
(I mention this b/c I'm personally terrible at working or volunteering for non-profit, though I keep trying.)

Longer term thoughts:
How did we get into this mess in the first place?
What can be done to mitigate or reverse those issues?

covid-, ST:DS9

@robey and if those all don't work for you, may I suggest the following semi-uplifting ST:DS9 episodes?

S5:E25: In the Cards
S6:E9: Statistical Probabilities

not very uplifting, but the episode that finally won me over (CW: BLM)
S6:E13 : Far Beyond the Stars

...even small things add up, and matter in ways you may never see. I've been lucky that people have gone out of their way to thank me for things I had no idea anyone else noticed I was doing.

@ischade oh, it's all selfish... there a bunch of things i want to do, but i need everyone to stop getting sick first!

@robey also extremely relatable. 😭
