Does anyone here know Japanese or Swedish?

I am learning these two languages and I would like to send messages to someone of sentences I come up with or to have small text conversations to practice :)

I know Russian so if anyone wants to practice it with me I will be happy to help.

Does anyone know a good CDN (Content Delivery Network) that is nice, ok price, ethical?

Are you not feeling motivated to go outside for a healthy walk? How about downloading the application StreetComplete from @fdroidorg and start helping out OpenStreetMap by adding missing data about the places around you!

I started today and it made my daily walks a lot more fun! It also motivates me to walk even more and visit new places that I wouldn't visit otherwise. :)

🎂 It's been one year since switching.social posted its #Introductions, so cake for everyone! 🍰 🍰 🍰 :blobcheer: 🎉

Wow. On the one hand it seems like just yesterday, but on the other it feels like a *lot* has happened since then.

Thank you for all the suggestions and feedback, and thank you to those who make #Alternatives that give us back our privacy. You are all heroes 👍

I have started writing an article about XMPP. I will try to keep it as simple, non-technical and short as possible.

Do you have anything you want to see in the article or do you have any questions I should answer in it? Or anything else? Let me know! :)

GNU/Social will support ActivityPub via my plugin before Mastodon and Pleroma deprecate OStatus.

I look forward to helping modernize the GS code base this summer 😄

Mastodon 3.0 will drop OStatus. Pleroma 1.x will continue to support OStatus, but it should be noted that we have basically deprecated it for a year now.

Very exciting call for research:

Mozilla has an interest in potentially integrating more of Tor into Firefox 🔥

Tor has never been deployed at this scale, so there are a lot of considerations to research before giving this a try.

phew! I did a big update to Medic, my #Rust CLI that checks KeePass databases for breached/weak/duplicate passwords. It's now more of a real CLI!

big h/t to @bugaevc for tipping me off to structopt (github.com/TeXitoi/structopt), which was pretty intuitive!

In case you missed it, you can follow people across the Fediverse even if you're using a different kind of site.

For example, here's a PixelFed account:

@earth

...here's a PeerTube account...

@documentaries

...here's a WriteFreely account...

@carbontwelve

...here's a Plume account...

@PlumeDev

...here's a Friendica account...

@hypolite

...and you can follow all of them from Mastodon.

Just click on the @ link to see their profile, and then click on Follow.

Why I no longer recommend using #AlternativeTo

1) The website hosted on cloudflare and contains some Google trackers.
2) It let's you filter for #FreeSoftware , but doesn't explain the value of it.
3) It mislabels Free Software as "open source" and proprietary freemiums as "free".

Instead I recommend:
@BurungHantu @switchingsocial @Framasoft 's degooglisons-internet.org/ and my blog at @paulakreuzer
