Entering grad school in the fall. Thinking about getting my own place (aka no roommates) near school and then maybe getting a cat. Thoughts? Should I consider having a roommate more?

Surveillance is crap because I don’t want to click on something I’d like to read or watch, for fear that it will start “recommending” things I don’t want. There’s nothing wrong with reading a tabloid news story every now and then! I just don’t want Big Brother to start thinking I only want to read tabloids. Ugh

Quote of the day: “Confidence doesn’t equal competence”

@qwert honestly, this language is garbage. It’s not intuitive at all and feels like “coding for morons”

Getting really frustrated that this place wants all their stuff written in VBA. I don’t like this language

Feeling pretty anxious. First grad school visit didn’t go so well, and now I’m reconsidering if this is something I actually want. Is this my goal? Hoping to find some clarity soon

I applaud the efforts to reduce drinking straw usage that I’ve seen, but it unfortunately lends itself to so many people slurping the hell out of their drink. Yuck!

I saw “obedience to law is liberty” etched into the stone on the top of a building. The more I think about it, the less I agree

i decided to make a graph of toots/hour by each instance in the top ten based on the stats from @federationbot

the first chart contains a line for the total toots, this made the individual instances to small to see, so the second chart doesn't have it

Because of a new software update it takes me a few more taps on my phone just to send a picture from within the message app just because they’re trying to show me more ads. Ridiculous

@qwert it’s probably not even that efficient compared to what some people can do (maybe it would have been quicker to do in JavaScript, but I don’t know that language), but I love applying what I’ve learned to real things

Instead of working on my design project this evening, I spent a few hours making a python script that makes a handy chat transcript from a GroupMe message archive. It’ll be (minorly) useful for the group, but I really enjoyed applying my knowledge here, more so than I would have if I had worked on the project content

I think I want to get a tablet that I can use to take notes in class so I don’t have to keep buying notebooks. I really only need the functionality to write notes and then maybe connect to my computer to save as a PDF, so I’m looking for something fairly cheap. There’s a chrome book that looks nice, but I’m upset at how google handles user data

My phone just automatically updated? Is that a thing now? I hate that. Wish I could go back to iOS 6

Really hate how the commentator’s “L’s” are entirely guttural

However, I'm super excited to be learning some things, albeit slowly. "Drinking from a fire hose," as they say.

Every time I see the acronym "API" I freak out on the inside because I have no idea what it means. I know what it stands for, but I'm very much a noob to all this computery stuff

Two Linux questions: 1. why does the amount of "free space" shown at the bottom of the file explorer keep decreasing? 2. best way to install R?

This is the *best* interactive explanation of Fourier Transforms I've ever seen. Congrats!
