I really do not understand the thought-process here! Something like "Hey, this guy carefully crafted a good commit message and really put effort into this. Maybe I should rewrite it!"

That's actually sabotage!

@musicmatze I also find this concerning because the (original) author of the commit (usually) has no opportunity to review those changes and it also makes things less transparent IMO (some people not only change the commit message but also modify the actual patch). In some cases the author might no longer want to be identified with the modified commit that got pushed (or at least would like to distance themselves from certain parts/choices). I think it's difficult to tell where to draw the line (e.g. some small stylistic changes are usually ok).
