Plasma doesn't "need" RAM, it runs fine on 10 years old laptops with 2 GB of RAM. It just use the RAM available to cache while you use it to feel more responsive. If it's using a lot of RAM it just mean you opened many menus, drawers etc or didn't restart the session in a while 😉
