today i've got somethin special for yall
a mastodon instance for folks who love to cook!!!
it's now offically open for signups (by approval) - please put any existing account you consider your "main" in the signup notes to help me approve!!
IMPORTANT NOTE TO OTHER ADMINS: this instance will be posting un CW'd food, please feel free to silence the instance if you don't want that on your fedi timeline!!!
a note about the "non-CW'd food thing"
this was something i thought a lot about and made the decision based on the fact that CW'ing every food post on a food-based instance would be extremely detrimental to the user experience there
again, to other admins, feel free to silence the instance to avoid that content showing up on your instance's federated timeline!
everyone else: you can mute instances on your own! when viewing a user (for instance, me @mdszy) , you can mute the entire instance yourself
@mdszy hell yeah!!!
@mdszy can i post pineapple on pizza
@hazel the official position of the admin of the instance (me) is that pineapple on pizza is good, so yes
@mdszy can i post banana on pizza
(in all seriousness: if it's meant to be gross, CW with cursed food)
@mdszy can i post chapstick on pizza
(this isn't serious, this is a bit, and the only thing i know how to cook is mac and cheese out of a box)
@Aleums thank you! i hope so as well
@ghost_bird again, this is why i'm recommending that admins who have any issue with that to feel free to Silence the instance. I announced this decision a few weeks ago when I was planning on creating the instance and it got a fair bit of attention, so I feel I've done my due dilligence here.
@ghost_bird I would certainly hope that you can see that there's a significant difference between porn and food.
@mdszy Culturally? Sure. In terms of consideration for vulnerable people? I’m still thinking. I follow people on kith.kitchen already, but some conversations I’ve had recently is making me think about CWs and community norms, I guess.
@ghost_bird again, like I said, I announced this well in advance and the announcement got a fair bit of attention, I'm literally advising admins silence my instance if they have a problem with it. Users are also free to silence instances on their own as well.
If there were a better solution, I'd use it. For instance, if I was able to somehow make local posts show up un-cw'd but when they federate out, they automatically get a CW applied.
For now, this is going to have to work.
@mdszy this is amazing!
@hyperlink aaaa thank you!!
@Paul oh cool, thank you for the heads up!
This Mastodon instance is for people interested in technology. Discussions aren't limited to technology, because tech folks shouldn't be limited to technology either!
