Entering the Matrix 👩‍💻

We are happy to announce an expansion of the Tor community's day-to-day conversations by bridging our IRC community the Matrix platform.

For regular Tor users, it means that you can chat with us using a friendly App like Element. :(

Hatchet and Winterdance are two of my favorite books, and my very worn copies still sit atop my bookshelf.

Interested in stewardship of the Creative Commons licenses and what that means? A draft with our values, commitments, and priorities is up for public comment. If you care about versioning, translation, participation, or many other areas, take a look:

Python 3.10 is a fantastic trap for everyone who uses YAML/Toml to configure CI, because writing an unquoted 3.10 will happily be normalized to 3.1.

btw this web page that spits out whether your brower claims to support *every subtype ever* of MP4 is very handy

It was surprisingly simple to set up cross-building for binaries on my projects in CI:

And the one place I was using Unix-specific code has been caught at compile time \o/

Whenever I make new releases, Windows binaries will be uploaded by CI, but in the meantime here's my "hello world" test repo:

is entering a phase of many massive changes. First up, KDE's full-featured video editor is now part of the ASWF's list of recommended tools, alongside software used at Disney, Warner Brothers, Netflix, Amazon Studios and more.

Stayed tuned for more exciting announcements in the coming months.

@brion @mansr i am happy to file yaml in general in the category of things which have gone horribly wrong

The DoJ report is in, actively suppressed and ignored reports of sexual harassment/assault from athletes and then retaliated against employees who tried to raise them:

This has been going on for over a decade but really broke open after USA Today published their explosive story in April 2020:

The Spartan Daily covered how current athletes felt about the investigation: (I contributed to this one)

I wrote a blohpost clearing out any confusion around libadwaita and the recoloring api and addressing all the fud spread from people that should have known better.

It is surprisingly straightforward to move a mailing list from Google Groups to 3

Documented the entire process at <>.

@ooni At @kiwix, we periodicaly prepare an offline package of the Gutenberg Library. Here is the online demo version of it Here the offline downloadable ZIM package to be read with Kiwix software We have language dedicated packages as well, like in Italian, see

This kind of offline website option is really important not just to people who have broken internet, but also those who live in remote areas or in difficult political situations.

Offline material can be distributed physically or through a local server and mesh network without ever connecting to the internet, which means it can bypass geographic or political barriers.

Kiwix themselves give an interesting example of this:

Can I just gloat for a minute?

One of my teams has a quarterly "Yak Shaving Day" (or week) which is cool but the coolest part is the graphic they have for this edition:

New project: prometheus-airnow-exporter scrapes air quality info for your zip code from's API

Threw it together pretty quickly as a PoC to see if I could set up alerting when the air gets bad.

Just released 0.2.0 of package-lock-lint: with lockfileVersion 2 ( 7) support!

It performs basic checks on package-lock.json because they're impossible to review.

And I formally proposed enabling it in CI:

LEGO Masters (Australia) is waaaay better than the US version, it's not even close.

You get to see the builds in progress more often and for longer, less host interruptions and showboating and better feedback from the judge.

Hey everyone. Our latest blog covering what we've been up to the last month is out. It covers some of the guides and docs we've been working on, as well as some behind the scenes stuff we do to keep the servers healthy.

You can find it here:

Hope you're all having a good weekend!
