Did a motherboard swap today, noticed a couple of things that seemed odd on the old motherboard.
First things first, the CPU power connector. I've seen stuff like this before, but not on a motherboard. Guess they decided to only go with 4pin even though the design allowedthe 8 pin power?
@kitlith old motherboards used that 4-pin connector, yes. I remember my old Athlon from 15 years ago had that one 🙂

Well, yeah. The surprising part to me was having the motherboard profile be 8-pin, but deciding to only put in a 4 pin socket -- because 4 pin fits just fine in an 8 pin socket.
@kitlith maybe they reuse the same PCB layout for several models, and the ones that have lower energy consumption can afford to use the 4-pin connector 🤷♂️
