SCAM: Lightmoon IS NOT Kdenlive. Lightmoon is MALWARE.
We have been notified of a site that is using Kdenlive's name and likeness to distribute malware to users. We will not be linking to the site to avoid accidental downloads, but if a search lands you on a site offering "lightmoon", "a free video editor" that looks in the screenshots identical to Kdenlive, this is malware.
We have also received notice that the criminal creators of **lightmoon malware** are sending out phishing emails trying to trick users into downloading their infected software. Please ignore and trash these messages.
Remember: The only legitimate sources for Kdenlive's software are your distro, well-established app stores (such as FlatHub), and Kdenlive's own download page located at:
@kde Thanks for making people aware.
When I heard about this a few days ago, I found the download link for the Windows standalone version of LM and submitted it to Virustotal. Google Safe Browsing warned about it; nothing else did. I also scanned the .zip file with Clam Antivirus, which said it was clean. Does a report need to be submitted to the antivirus makers somehow?
@nordern wat? what about gnome browser which isnt based on google one but apple? o.O
what about gedit? this thing i even had at school so it means something...
@hacknorris You know, the gnome browser is actually a good example of gnome software I do like. Not because I actually want to use it as a browser, but because it allows me to test something safari like without buying a mac.
Also, remember what webkit was based on? KHTML :P
