The KDE community is adding Matrix to its instant messaging communication infrastructure. Join our server, get a cool KDE handle and become part of the KDE conversation.

Matrix provides graphical instant messaging for desktop and mobile (with all its goodies: gifs, emojis, etc.), bridging for IRC channels, point to point encryption, file sharing, and more stuff that will help improve KDE's communications.

All the existing rooms on Matrix (and their counterparts on IRC, Telegram and elsewhere) continue to exist. This update provides provides a dedicated server for KDE users to access them using names like :kde.org.

@kde Not gonna lie, I'd kindof like it if y'all ditched Telegram, since the spam situation there seems to be getting worse by the day again lately :P

Snark aside, great to see KDE move into the world of decentralized chat! (Really looking forwards to that Plasma Mobile client, even if just to run atop 'desktop' Plasma on my Gemini.)

@kde You should be aware that most Matrix clients leak information through WebRTC. The Matrix team does not consider this a bug.

@r000t @kde not most, but Riot. IIRC it's the only client that uses WebRTC, and that's for calls.
This only happens if you use the voice/video calling features. Otherwise, there is no WebRTC involved.
