Pinned toot

Hello, mastodon.technology (finally migrated my account from mastodon.social) πŸ‘‹πŸ»

I'm your average computer science student and software engineer who loves to game, rant and run.

I have so many opinions/thoughts that I feel like I should write down but definitely shouldn't post publicly.

"What's on your mind?"

Way too much. All the time.

But thanks for asking, Mastodon.

Spent barely any time on social media the past days and my mood and self worth have improved drastically. I've no idea how I hadn't realised sooner to what extent they're impacting me negatively.

Trying something new. Disabling all social media apps on my phone until noon. Let's see how this is going to affect my mood.

As someone who usually likes JRPGs, is Xenoblade Chronicles 2 worth it?

Watching Brian Kibler discuss the fundamental flaws in Hearthstone made me realise that I should probably just quit the game altogether: youtube.com/watch?v=UwoKiztnBE

It is indeed incredibly boring how 90% of the games play out the same way. This had lead to me even quitting the game for several months last year. Somehow I returned to it though, probably because I simply love card games.

Good morning, everyone. Spent the weekend - like every other weekend - outside the country at my (practically) second home.

It's always nice to have a change of pace on the weekend but returning back to your daily life always hits you back hard.

I'm the kind of person who's way more productive when not using an external monitor.

There's something about having too much space on a screen that leads me to having too many distractions open.

Yesterday’s afternoon project: erasing the hard drive of my old MacBook and reinstalling macOS.

What a full on nostalgia trip it was being confronted with a pre OS X Yosemite UI.

I've had so many cool app ideas but have yet to finish one.

My issue is not writing code - that's the easy part. My issue is finding a design I'm happy with.

TLDR: I really need to learn basic app design.

YouTube autosets the resolution of the videos I'm watching to 720p.

Based on my internet speed I'd say setting the resolution to 1080p "might" work too ...

Serious question: Why is Mastodon/Twitter crossposting a thing - especially when users end up ignoring the reactions on one of the platforms anyways?

Is it the felt need to be active on two similar social networks? If so, why not choose one? Are people afraid of missing out?*

*hint: they're not

One might think it's ironic how I'm a software engineer working on a close sourced framework, yet I don't like updating my OSs.

In reality it's because I'm confronted with what can break with updates on a daily basis.

Why do people still blog in 2019 when there’s YouTube? /s

When you finally give and update your Mac (which already seems to take an eternity), only to be greeted to macOS telling you that you're still not on the lastest version.

Every. Single. Time.

As a joke I recorded myself talking to my camera yesterday for the first time in a long while. I really forgot how much fun it made.

I'm so going to start my new YouTube channel ... today.

Only after starting my first job as a developer I've realised how little developing software is about the programming language you're coding in, but about understanding and solving a given problem.

I really need to stop playing Hearthstone.

I'm wasting so much time and energy with getting angry over bad plays or incredible luck from my opponents. That time could be used so much more productively instead with e.g. not getting angry.

I've booked two flights today *excitement intensifies* ... to the only city I've flown to in the past year *excitement immediately drops to 0%*.
