Huh, just watched ARQ, a low budget, Canadian sci fi film about a couple in a time loop, and found it to be pretty good. It's one of those that can't rely on special effects because they don't have the budget, so they keep everything in one building, and try to be inventive instead. Not the best movie of the decade, but it's clever and interesting
A while ago I was told how one of my team mates (quite a young kid) was hired: "he did a screenshot mode for Battlefield, and DICE just decided to hire him. Then they realized he was too much of a hacker for the gameplay team, so they gave him to the rendering team 🤷🏻♂️".
Today I discovered he's not only a hacker, but a semi-famous hacker at that! https://kotaku.com/creator-of-amazing-division-screenshot-mod-swiftly-bann-1822848988
Fucking kids these days. They're doing good shit
right after i joined mastodon i saw a post (idr who it was from) that said smthn like "it's really painful how things like art and dancing are considered something you have to be good at instead of things that all humans do, as naturally as eating or breathing" and i think about that all the time. the things that we naturally do have been commodified and portrayed as somethint to struggle for, as things that only The Best are allowed to do. when without that pressure, we would all just do them??

Regarding LB, and expectations of what a "real man" is, this is something I've been thinking a lot about lately.
Traditional man roles of "protector", "provider", "warrior", etc have become not just useless, but harmful in modern life.
We need better man archetypes. Ones that don't feed the toxic masculinity monster.
Myself, I seem to have unconsciously gravitated to one of the few good (I think) man archetypes left: artisan. And even that one is quite anachronistic nowadays.
For the men/boys/guys
You can wear whatever you want and be cute :)
You can be pretty if you wish as well.
You don't have to be big or tall to be a "real man".
You can feel pretty and soft and that doesn't make you a girl.
Crying at sad movies or wanting to hug cute animals is a man thing to do if you're a man :)
Wanting your face and nails to be sparkly is very understandable, and again doesn't make you any less of who you are.
There's no way you have to act or look to be considered a man if that's just who you are.
Hah! And this gave me an idea for generating uniform random values on a circle really fast. This is gonna be useful 😊
Ok, there's still a _bit_ of clustering and I'm not sure where it's coming from, because there shouldn't be any. I'll investigate tomorrow...
I'm building this bed for the kid.
It has 16 slats that support the mattress.
Each slat has 2 sides.
Each side has 2 holes.
The slat holes are mirrored on the frame.
16 * 2 * 2 * 2 = 2⁴ * 2³ = 2⁷ = 128
My programmer side is pretty amused by that.
My woodworker side is really tired from having to drill 128 individual holes 😭
