You know that person you work with that's always so helpful, even in the small ways?

Tell them "thanks". They (and you) don't hear it enough.

I'm going to put commas wherever I damn well feel like. You're not my real dad, Rubocop.

If you are in a public place and you use your phone on speaker ...

you. are. a. bad. person.

You are a bad person.

Fucking stop it.

@pbrisbin Saw the news about your daughter's arrival! That's excellent and exciting news - congratulations! It's a _fun_ ride, so strap in and enjoy :)

Hope you're doing well, man

Had a minor scare when an account of mine got singed into from Thailand so I spent some time cleaning up passwords and doing an audit of any issues 1password and "have I been pwned" tell me I have.

Tell you what. Cleaning 1pass and blowing away accounts on all these old services is SATISFYING AS FUCK.

I used to be able to pull up to a computer at around 8 or 9pm and get some stuff done - either for work, freelance, or for my side projects.

No longer. After my son's put to bed I just can't get my brain up to speed.

And I feel guilt for this fact.

I know it's stupid. I know it's ridiculous. But it is. And it's a paradox because I KNOW it's ok to not "work" when it's night time. Also - I'm lucky that I don't _have_ to do this, and I realize that.

Sure, the BIG PLACE SETTING and BIG SILVERWARE industries will go under but wgaf really.

If we as a society could just agree to not spend money on wedding gifts, we'll have a surplus for AT LEAST universal healthcare

While 90-100% of the time she would have voted the same as Capuano, I'm really excited that Ayanna Presley won the 7th district. This one is more than about policy. True representation is ultra important and I'm thrilled the people in Boston will have that voice in the house.

Silence and alone time is the greatest gift anyone could ever give me.

That's not sad or unfortunate, it just is what it is.

y'all, please send virtual hugs to the Brazilian people tonight, who lost their entire national museum in a catastrophic fire. thousands of artifacts that date back thousands of years were lost, as well invaluable artworks from many cultures. this is a terrible loss for humanity.

as an anthropologist, artist and a lover of brazilian culture, and as someone who studied tupi, this loss is staggering and tremendous.

Might even need to do a Better Call Saul style commercial for this can't miss idea

My next venture might be my most (only) successful business ever - a service that will write you bespoke, just-in-time "IS RAILS/RUBY DEAD!(?)" blog posts. For an extra charge we'll schedule several posts over however many months. Want a new one every 3 months? OKAY!

Our guarantee - front page of HN every time.

The reason the movie "Mile 22" is called that is because that's how far you have to drive before you feel sufficiently distanced from that nonsense.

🤷‍♂️ win some / lose some

I like mastodon a lot. It scratches a really good itch.

I don't like that I can't seem to break out of this cycle of nano-sized thoughts.

Thought (maybe?) - "oh cool, let's see what sort of PHYSICAL things I could do to not be a blob" and instead ... nope.

Programmer culture does not take care of itself.

not a single time has a “hey, fuck you, you’re using one of those adblockers” interstitial tried the approach of saying “we ensure our ads are unobtrusive, lightweight & malware-free, so please consider not blocking our ads,” an approach which might actually get me to consider it
