Unkindness of Ghosts (setting spoilers)
This book describes hierarchy of abuse. The lowest in hierarchy are black women, then there are men guards (i think black?), then mostly white middle class, and then theocratic regime at the top.
The people in the middle are abused by people at the top, and in turn abuse people at the bottom to vent their frustrations.

Main point for me from the book is why revolution is hard.
Revolution is hard because the people who should do it, the underclass, are most traumatized by the current system. And having PTSD (with ongoing traumas) doesn't really help you to make rational decisions.
Anyway it is a good book, unpleasant and hard to read but good.
