@ischade Many editions of the game Dungeons and Dragons require wizards to spend 20 pounds or more of gold *per page* of their spellbook.
I assume this was because the ink used was proprietary and that open-source ink was against the law.

@Xinjinmeng I always just assumed that was a game designer's attempt at keeping mages from getting too powerful too quickly.
