One thing that's completely fucked about the US government system that I didn't appreciate until now is that because the executive branch is entirely appointments, the appointees are completely unaccountable to the electorate. The labor secretary Marty Walsh faces zero accountability for just failing to acknowledge that his colleague the chairman of the fed is out loud trying to suppress wages.
@hughrawlinson appointment by President but confirmed by the Senate. Honestly not sure if it’s better or worse than a PM being able to just appoint and remove cabinet secretaries at will.
@hughrawlinson also the Federal Reserve has a level of semi-autonomy from the rest of the government. The terms of the board and chair are offset from Presidential terms. They are more politically isolated than say a cabinet secretary for the express purpose of them making decisions without consequences.
