Wonder if replacing an 1.6GHz Atom 330 board (2008) that has an SCSI controller on a classic PCI bus by an 1.1GHz Celeron 847 (2011) with PCIe SCSI will make my tape backups go faster, or not...

(The Atom mainboard couldn't keep up feeding an LTO-3 drive with data from a local disk.)

@galaxis In any case, I can recommend "mbuffer" in between. I first collect all the data, create a tarball on disk, and then send this tarball via mbuffer and dd to tape. Lowest disk IO needed, fast for me.
