Business builds wealth for those who provide value. It doesn't care about winners and losers. Don't give up, build something great and people will come.

Shit. I think I know why social networks (including Mastodon) don't foster personal connection: There isn't a shared activity to bond over. No one is doing anything together. It's just people thinking out loud.

Even the special interest instances on this network don't really facilitate that, because they are too meta and only talk about a specific interest without facilitating the shared participation in said activity.

That's what made my old site ArtGrounds work. You could draw there.

The default license I choose when creating a new project is the MIT license. But I wonder, am I doing a disservice to the open source community? Should I use GPL for new projects? Or do you find GPL to be too restrictive?

I worry about these things.

So Max Schrems is sueing Google and Facebook for ~4 Billion € each for #GDPR violations. We take this possibility for granted, but let that sink in for a moment: we live in a society where a random individual can sue multibillion dollar companies for huge fines, and doesn't have to fear for his life or fear significant other repercussions. Not too bad actually.

@bob
Remember what Stallman did ~30 years ago when proprietary software dominated, he didn't recommended abstinence he came up with a positive answer aka Free Software. We need to do the same with today's evolving technology (cloud, saas, IoT, whatever). Ignoring it will change nothing we have to get engaged and shape it in a freedom and privacy respecting way.

Abstract yourself from the current US political climate. Now say this:

"A porn star is suing the President of the United States for defamation."

I've been wandering around in the F-Droid (f-droid.org/) app repositories for #android for the last couple of days.

Holy shit, why didn't I start using it earlier? There's some amazing stuff in there. #software

So I just met one of the 3 (!) maintainers of F-Droid. They are desperately looking for more volunteers as they are responsible for 1500 repositories between them.

About data, privacy, politics and the "general plutocratic neoliberal ideology that has controlled the U.S. for more than two decades" a priceless interview with RMS
