how do you tell someone their art just isn't as good as they think it is in the most non asshole way possible?

@fyeahnix I would start by asking them if they WANT the feedback. If they do, then tell them what you see and how you think it is they might improve. And if they asked you? Well hopefully they react well to criticism, because in the art world they're going to get a shit load of it haha

@fyeahnix Offer them a piece that is totally amazing and they will discover for themselves it needs improved, unless they are a sociopath. Example: "Oh <name> that is so inspiring, it reminds me of the <piece name> that I saw last year by <artists name>. Do you know their work?" That is how I would do it!
@fyeahnix you smile and don't go to their shows but meet up for drinks after.
@fyeahnix if someone thinks their art is good thats usually a good thing, cuz they're confident in their own work! maybe don't say that its bad and/or not good, but instead ask if they wouldn't mind some constructive criticism on their work from time to time to improve on it.
