There was a much more cynical monologue concerning Mastodon's future that flashed across home timeline. I decided to take a crack at a more hopeful/geeky one...
It was the dawn of the third age of Social Media – a decade or so after the twin plagues of Birdland and Facesplat were born.
The Mastodon Project was a dream, given form. Its goal: to prevent another centralized social media disaster, by creating a place where humans (continued)
where humans of all shades could work out their differences peacefully on a loose federation of systems. It's a port of call – home away from home – for geeks, activists, thinkers, and those marginalized by the centralized systems.
Representatives of every branch of humanity, wrapped in 6,500 distributed instances. . . all alone in the night.
It can be a dangerous place, but it's our last best hope for peace.
This Mastodon instance is for people interested in technology. Discussions aren't limited to technology, because tech folks shouldn't be limited to technology either! We adhere to an adapted version of the TootCat Code of Conduct and have documented a list of blocked instances. Ash is the admin and is supported by Fuzzface, Brian!, and Daniel Glus as moderators.
