Apparently Kroger is closing several supermarkets because Long Beach California dared to institute Hero Pay (not what I'd call it) of an extra $4 for the workers and Kroger decided it rather stop doing business, tells you what corporate values most (profits. Not workers or communities)

no one asks some random person making a sword in their garage who they're planning to impale
no one asks someone playing with wood, making cool cutting board designs what utility the design plays, or why they need the 50th cutting board this year

and yet, many tech projects (including actually useful ones!) will have brigades of people jumping in and asking "why does this exist?" or "who is this for?"

gonna follow this up by saying that it’s not effective to shame people for using proprietary or centralized tech. walled gardens are pretty unavoidable at the moment, and a lot of people are just trying to get by. turning it into a pissing contest is a major turn off, but as we start seeing more of these cracks in the facade it’s good to explain risks and trade offs if you can be empathetic about it.
