@InternetEh this belongs in some sort of 90s spy/hacking movie

looks like fedi is on that "ackshually, anarchy means i can do whatever i want" bent today...

moderation is necessary

curation is underrated

:badabing:

@skelly my aging techbro ass has kinda settled on the idea that it's the community that needs to be in charge of moderation, and a lot of our current social media strife comes from having these mega platforms that try to satisfy all sorts of conflicting communities. it's an impossible task imo.

โ€TikTok is introducing Americans to a question that Europeans have struggled with for 20 years: a lot of your citizens might use an Internet platform created somewhere that doesnโ€™t know or care about your laws or cultural attitudes and wonโ€™t turn up to a committee hearing.โ€

@yakkoj reminds me of the time the NRO donated a hand-me-down space telescope to NASA and people were floored at how good it was. this is the hardware that the intelligence community is throwing away. the amount we spend on civilian space is a fraction of a drop in the bucket.

there's a middle ground between "Linux as a personality" and " it doesn't matter at all who controls the future of computing". be careful not to react against one so hard that you slide right into the other.
