Linux command line

To see the technical details of the hardware of your computer(RAM, hard-drive, network card etc.) you can type:

sudo lshw

at your command line.

sudo lshw | less

if you want to page through it.

Another command line program is smartctl which is part of the package (sudo apt-get install smartmontools(to install on Debian)).
This can be used to query the health of most drives(ATA/SATA SCSI/SAS)

Options can be explored by typing

man smartctl
