Triona boosted

Fun fact: there is no such thing as Stockholm syndrome. It was invented on the spot by an incompetent psychiatrist to explain why the hostages didn't trust him, after he demonstrated complete disregard for their safety. It's literal gaslighting. There is no research that would confirm the phenomenon. It was later picked up by media, and is mostly used to explain away the distrust of victims towards law enforcement after they have been mistreated by it.

Visiting my dad in the country and some galahs came to visit!

@aeonofdiscord Exact definitions and where the line gets drawn can get hard 😅

I think it might be harder here because distributed is being used at different levels to refer to different concepts. Naming things is one of the hard parts of computer science 😂

@aeonofdiscord @RadicalEdward It's the other way around, decentralised is a subset of distributed.

Running multiple web servers serving the same files to share the load is a distributed but not a decentralised one.

@mlemweb @datatitian @cwebber I've used one of these to wake up for years: lumie.com/products/bodyclock-s

But using smart lights to build your own sounds interesting 🤔

@deshipu I'm not sure what you mean by 'hospitals are NSW'

NSW is New South Wales, the most populous state. Hospitals are run and (mostly) funded at the state level, so there's lots of talk about NSW's hospitals given they have the biggest covid outbreak.

I made a (left handed) bench hook for lino cutting since my partner wants to try some lino cutting again. Turned out well, I'm happy with the result.

@lightone Is it more block post style long posts that you see as not well served with the current interfaces or something between micro posts and blog posts?

I've been having thoughts about treating you inbox like email and using the sieve language from email to sort incoming posts into folders 📩 or to add (extra) content warnings to posts ⚠️

Should I get back to writing my own activity pub microblog?

*stares at pile of unfinished projects* 👀

Apart from the upgrade disabling all the repo's because they are mirror references and therefore considered 'third-party', it seems to have gone ok

Upgrading my upcloud hosted ubuntu server wish me luck 🤞

@qyliss I feel the confrontational microblogging culture that twitter actively cultivates for 'engagement' will always bleed into other microblogging platforms no matter how much we try and remove the features that drive that culture from the fediverse.

Love to get up on a Saturday morning and fix an expired certificate issue that someone else was supposed to be fixing yesterday :thisisfine:

DE; looking for a job; no idea what I'm doing

@laura 👋 I'm hiring dev ops engineers in Germany as a remote role. The details are here (specific location in DE isn't important): apply.workable.com/intellisens

This job description is a senior role but I also need a mid level person. Let me know if you are interested 🤞 or want more details 😄

Otherwise you could check angel.co/ or f6s.com/ for other startup jobs. They are a bit US focused but also have jobs in EU.

@polychrome These look like a type of scale bug, they come in a bunch of different types. This page has pictures of some different types and how to deal with them: epicgardening.com/scale-insect

@iconography@glitterkitten.co.uk Have you seen this, it seems like it would be in your area of interests: youtube.com/watch?v=cErgMJSgpv

I only suspect you haven't seen it because I don't remember being trolled in Old English yet.
