@chess7th Sorry! I *just* saw this.
Ultimately, I wanted my site to be served from a fileshare, if it could. It's being served via Firebase Hosting but it could just as easily work from S3 or, I dunno, an NFS share or something. But I didn't want a running server process in between the browser and the data beyond the infrastructure.
