Wtf sort of mental gymnastics do people have to do to justify holding on to their Facebook accounts? Download your shit and leave. Screw the “friends” you’ve accumulated there. If they’re actually friends, there are plenty of other ways to keep in contact. If Facebook was a person doing all this crap, would you still hang out with them every day?
now THIS is epic
(exactly what it says on the tin: a visualization of orbital satellites, etc - VERY cool)

Not to say people shouldn't work on those projects, because they should. But if we want a world where it's not just the most tech savvy who are using these projects then we need a much broader reaching project than I think the FOSS community sees itself as.
But that's only because right now I think we don't have an actual base inside of the war against tech capital, i.e: unions and an independent political party. Once we have those things, maybe this won't seem so abstract.

‘You Give Apps Sensitive Personal Information. Then They Tell Facebook’
“The social-media giant collects intensely personal information from many popular smartphone apps just seconds after users enter it, even if the user has no connection to Facebook…”
Hey developers & ActivityPub enthusiasts!
@GetTogetherComm is a free open alternative to MeetUp.com.
The lead developer needs help with implementing federation, either coding or better documentation about ActivityPub.
There's an open issue for it here:
There's been discussion but no code contributions yet.
Can you help?
(It would be *so* cool to get this kind of service federated, imagine every town having its own instance )
i liked the first dot com bubble, though. i think a lot of people get excited about services like Mastodon and privacy-centered, independent services on the WWW these days because it reminds them of what the Web *should* have been before Google, Apple, FB, etc. took it over and ruined a lot of it.
This Mastodon instance is for people interested in technology. Discussions aren't limited to technology, because tech folks shouldn't be limited to technology either!
We adhere to an adapted version of the TootCat Code of Conduct and follow the Toot Café list of blocked instances. Ash is the admin and is supported by Fuzzface, Brian!, and Daniel Glus as moderators.
