I'm so thankful right now I get to focus on building something that's meaningful. I know down the road I'll look back at this time where I fill my day with ActivityPub, IndieAuth and building tools to empower individuals instead of corporations. I don't take it for granted, and I know I won't have the luxury to do this forever. Thank you to everyone who has helped me work on Owncast today.

How our meat-based diet kills our rivers?

"Farming. This is now the biggest cause of river pollution in the UK. There are various reasons, including soil erosion, fertilisers and pesticides, but the most intense and extreme cause, especially in the west of Britain, is industrial livestock units."

Covid-19 vaccine disinformation

@tfardet @ashwinvis

Congrats to the conspiracy theorists for serving well the establishment. The undermining of the public discourse on the management of the pandemic and the -valid- social discrimination concerns about vaccination/immunity passports is their latest achievement.

Never heard of this before but have to try it now.

We owe a huge thanks to Jeff Bezos. Hope that his words will be repeated again and again by the media. It can certainly help the workers of the world contemplate how the world works.

On July 19, wrt reveals, the EU Commission chief said that the claims have "to be verified" but that, if true, "it is completely unacceptable.

On July 6, the EU Parliament had approved the ePrivacy Derogation (), allowing providers of e-mail and IM services to search messages of each citizen. A follow-up regulation will make it mandatory.

‘Men have a tendency to eat meat so they’re perceived as manly, and changing that gender stereotype could lead to a reduction in carne consumption, according to a UCLA study’

We are living in a climate emergency with animal agriculture being the leading cause of most of the environmental problems that we are facing today. This world urgently needs more selfless protectors and less toxic masculinity: for the animals, the planet & for your own health.

@pluralistic as always a fantastic read and a great thread.

My only annoyance is with the EFF, who seem to shun interoperability and open protocols (and places like the Fediverse), and have for years. I speak from experience, having talked to EFF folk in public and in private.

I just don't get EFF's almost hostile approach to services that are not mainstream walled gardens. It baffles me.

@martijnbraam
That's great! Next step, package koreader for alpine, and we are ready :)

There's a very nice merge request from jetomit for adding support for the Kobo Clara HD ereader in @postmarketOS

Fwiw, the black rectangle in the GUE/NGL (the Left group) is because of the Greek "left" MEPs.

@guenther
It is the same group, "The Left group in the European Parliament - GUE/NGL". There is no reason for two chart records.

@echo_pbreyer

Here is the list of MEPs voted against that allows e-mail and chat surveillance by the service providers.

🚨🇬🇧 Majority of the European Parliament allows e-mail, messaging and chat providers to search all private messages for allegedly illegal material and report to the police (#chatcontrol). We will take legal action.

Online privacy works in a way similar to vaccination.

You apply it to protect yourself as well as to protect others,

and it makes little sense if people you interact with do not adopt it.
