Theorists often discuss the issue of the alienation of the workers from their product. According to this, the workers have no control over the design and the production; the owners control the process and as a consequence, control the workers. For us -the workers- to be free, this should change. But for many of us this alienation serves as a refuge; we don't even want to know the final product and its purpose. Sth like a defense mechanism against the waste of our energy on working "just to make a living".
