@ashfurrow This is really the best way of handling this in scifi — don't delve into details, anything you come up with will be extremely boring, completely unintelligible and totally wrong. Just state whatever properties are needed for your plot purposes, and handwave them, claiming that there are specialists in the book's world that know how it works, but they are currently unavailable for explanation.
