Considering that this exact thing just happened on my campus, this is a little too on the nose for my taste.

@drb is there a reason universities are required to do this (have an open job application period even when they know they want to hire internally)? It seems like a lot of wasted time and effort for everyone involved tbh

some of it is to support the successful internal candidate so that it seems less like "settling" for them
