If you're using Mastodon through the website, you can automatically filter out posts with certain words or phrases.
Go to Preferences > Filters > Add new filter, then fill in the form with the details and click the "add new filter" button.
This can be useful if you want to avoid certain topics on your timeline.
Because the Fediverse uses chronological timelines, and because it has a worldwide audience, it is totally fine to boost your own post later so it can reach people in different time zones.
There's no algorithm deciding what people see in their main Fediverse timeline, so they just see whatever happens to be there when they are online.

The Mill has spent the week reporting on the situation at the Royal Exchange Theatre, which has cancelled its summer show and has been hit very hard by the pandemic.

If you're coming to EMF with an Android phone, you'll need to use this app to set up the connection to our fancy wifi. Best to install it now before you get on site!

Is JSON schema actually useful? Wondering whether the effort to translate documented interface spec will be worth the effort. #json #jsonschema #programming
@feditips what's the Mastodon equivalent of the Twitter like? Boost, Favourite, Bookmark?
When you're posting hashtags that contain multiple words, it's a good idea to capitalise the first letter of each word. This helps blind people who use screen reader software to know what the hashtag actually says.
For example #DogsOfMastodon is much easier for screen reader users than #dogsofmastodon, even though they're technically the same tag.
This kind of capitalisation is usually known as "CamelCase". CamelCase doesn't just help blind people, it also makes hashtags clearer for sighted people too!
Using CamelCase won't affect your post's visibility (because searches ignore capitalisation) but it will improve the post's accessibility, so you'll get more people reading it.
Thank you to @martyn for raising this topic 👍
