I learned (indirectly through Wikipedia) that The Book of Five Rings "emphasizes that people must learn to perceive that which they cannot understand or comprehend".
To me, there are big things that Humanity perceives/understands and smaller things that individuals perceive/understand.

Then there are things like quarks and bosons that we cannot directly perceive but that we understand. We don't perceive subatomic particles, we perceive our measurements of them.
