The so-called “clones” problem in app stores is well studied in #FOSS policy circles. We took a moment to write up the basics of the trademark-based approach usually applied to build solutions for the problem: https://sfconservancy.org/blog/2022/jul/11/app-store-clones-trademark-approach/
@conservancy The trademark approach is consistent with law and has a long history. A perfect example is how CentOS came to be, or #almalinux (well, I think they should get the gnu back in, but that's a different topic...). In fact, what would happen to many WSL distros? Would Microsft be violating it's store terms of service for distributing their Mariner distro in their store, too?
