If you weren't among the 33,600 people 😮 at online #FOSDEM this weekend, be advised: 100% #FOSS for online conferences is production ready *today*. Say NO to any Zoom (or other proprietary software) online events from now on. Demand software freedom! https://sfconservancy.org/blog/2021/feb/08/just-say-no-to-zoom/
Well that's exactly it... This mail is so full of shit!
As it's often the case, its author finds justifications that sound acceptable "only thing GGL want is to recruit" (no. they want to buy image, to associate with an ethical movement, to appear unavoidable and make it harder to consider leaving them, to become harder to criticize, etc.)
That's how "soft corruption" works on people. "Free" money makes them consider in a better light (and defend) the hand that feeds them..
Very much agreed on the technical side. Attending FOSDEM 2021 was a very smooth experience, I was impressed.
But I'm not sure FOSDEM is a good test case on the user experience side. You can expect a certain level of technical experience from the FOSDEM audience.
I feel it would be a more interesting test if - for example - this had been an online comic con.
