@jon_valdes oh, some people have mentioned networking. I can't stress enough how important that is. Every single job I've had has been because I knew someone who put me in contact with someone else.
There's many ways to create a network: IRC/slack channels, forums, write interesting articles, give volunteer courses, help out novice programmers, local meeting groups... find one you're good at, and start slowly building a reputation of being a good person to be around.
The rest will come 😉
This should be taught in schools along with other ways our brains are flawed—like optical illusions, cognitive biases, etc. Maintaining a level of discomfort is good & healthy http://theoatmeal.com/comics/believe
Any developers have some good advice on finding jobs? I'm stuck in a well and I don't know how to get out.
I've worked at a few Dev Shops in the past such as WDS and my cousin's Web agency (my first real job). Other than that I've just been building apps and learning everything I can about Ruby/Rails. I've been writing code for about 10 years, but I haven't been able to find a job since WDS.
Do I just need to build stuff and put it out there? Or write articles? any advice would help. Much love
I browse Unsplash daily and yesterday I decided to upload a photo to the website https://unsplash.com/@ornithocoder

There's a lot of buzz about Artificial Intelligence these days, but what technologies do you guys, gals & non-binaries think will change the world in the next 5-10 years and why? What will that world look like?
so ill I can't spell "espresso"
I have a cold so I have added an extra shot of expresso to my usual double mocha 🤧
I got this http://bit.ly/2pZDppp from @danie10 on mastodon.social. Here you can have a preview of the conversations on other instances, great tool to use before committing to another instance.
I just wanted to write a post and thank everyone who works on or with #Mastodon in any form. This site has become my go to social platform and for good reason.
1. No political influencing being shoved down my throat.
2. No bullshit product promotions or marketing.
3. People who know their craft and work to improve things for others and themselves.
4. No shareholders deciding what's best for us as users.
So thanks for the awesome place you all have provided and contribute to. 🤗
If I show you a picture on my phone, don’t swipe left, don’t swipe right.
Just look.
Anyone else have a Boss who actively discourages his/her department members from learning new things and improving their skills, even when it's in their own time?
being on #mastodon feels like moving into the small town in Totoro but instead of farmers everyone is a developer
I wonder if in some alternate universe it there is a unicorn sipping a human frappuccino.
I bet it tastes like Netflix and Debt.
@creatrixtiara Hi! I'm new to Mastodon and was looking for people who don't look like me but have interests somewhat like me. I get very excited about tech sometimes but I also enjoy webcomics/fanfiction/etc (and I combined all of the above in https://www.comic-rocket.com/), and I'm trying to learn about intersectionality and related topics by listening. So for all those reasons your bio and toots caught my eye.
I have difficulties with sending toots lately. like, it's 500 internal server error or something, but no message. happens in web and in Tusky. And I have to send toots multiple times, because they're failing at posting
Warcraft III - ah good ol times
I didn't think that the little photo did Andre justice, so I force ghosted him in, but I can't find a decent photo of the grandpa, even as Colombo, to force ghost in. 😥 https://mastodon.technology/media/YmlPKNF24qHGvJerwfE
A new stable release of #Wine is available to install on #Ubuntu — but you'll need to add the new Wine #repository to get it, so here's how!
