#^What's wrong with Huawei, and why are countries banning the Chinese telecommunications firm?

Intelligence officials in many countries are concerned the company could be helping the Chinese government spy on companies, military units and government agencies.

No Chinese company is fully independent of its government, which reserves the right to require companies to assist with intelligence gathering. Huawei is even more closely tied to the government than many Chinese firms: Its founder, Ren Zhengfei, is a former technologist in the People’s Liberation Army. As his company grew, so did international concerns about whether Huawei equipment could be used to spy on companies and governments around the world.

Little Johnny was sitting in class doing math problems when his teacher picked him to answer a question, "Johnny, if there were five birds sitting on a fence and you shot one with your gun, how many would be left?" "None," replied Johnny, "cause the rest would fly away." "Well, the answer is four," said the teacher, "but I like the way you're thinking." Little Johnny says, "I have a question for you. If there were three women eating ice cream cones in a shop, one was licking her cone, the second was biting her cone and the third was sucking her cone, which one is married?" "Well," said the teacher nervously, "I guess the one sucking the cone." "No," said Little Johnny, "the one with the wedding ring on her finger, but I like the way you're thinking." !joke

Why the asterisk is “The Most Obscene Letter”

“Naked naughty words can destroy your brain and also society as a whole. However – and one would think this is obvious – It’s completely safe to THINK naughty words. And it’s safe to cause other people to think naughty words. But if you spell those naughty words without the asterisk loin cloth to protect your victims, you’re a danger to society. I know this to be true because I heard it from lots of people who have sh*t-for-brains.”

One thing I dislike about mastodon is the way the federated timeline updates when I am in the middle of reading a toot. It should only update when I tell it to (at least as an option)

Today's activity was letting the kids help me assemble ikea furniture. I think they have learned a lot about following instructions in diagrams. One technique I use more and more to test understanding is to propose a wrong solution and see if they can identify that it's wrong.

I discovered @pixelfed (photo sharing) and @itchio (game marketplace) today 👋

It feels like a new internet is emerging, I'm hopeful for both of these projects!

I have a Wordpress blog. Is there any way of getting updates on it (or other RSS feeds) automatically going to Mastodon?
