@xorowl True for some kids, I expect others got useful things from school. Some people need a more structured learning environment than others.
@cabalamat sure, but that doesn't mean they actually taught you how to survive. I didn't learn taxes, government, how to make friends, how to get a job, how to pay bills, how money worked, how to handle intense emotion, how to deal with negative people, jeez, half of what they taught was a sanitized lie.
Yknow.... i take it back though, i feel like my science classes at least were pretty solid. that shit's helped me out with basic life.
@xorowl I didn't learn any of the things you listed either. They did teach me a fair bit of maths and science which was useful i suppose.
Having said that I've only once used calculus in my life after school.
@cabalamat i tried to get to calculus in college, and had an aweful time. i didn't know how to focus myself at all at the time, and the math was so abstract and difficult for me. Algebra is a basic life skill, trig a nice trick to look like a pro, you get into calc and you're basically doing science.
I just wanted to make software, but they require this shit. i fucked right out and started programming professionally anyway. Fuck the system.
@xorowl Algebra a basic life skill? I imagine many get through their whole lives without doing it. The concepts are good for programming and many turn their hand to simple programming these days (e.g. excel)
@cabalamat i mean i think we're splitting hairs here now. i think we're using words differently. i am the sleepy and havent a lot of the good words.
