This is something I have been working toward, alongside many others, during my entire career at Unity.
It took a lot of "hack weeks," 20% time, and other donated time to get off the ground; it came within a hair's breadth of being terminated multiple times.
We fought to keep it alive, to get it onto the release track, to keep it from being shipped with special license restrictions.
It's great to finally see our work having a public impact.
It is proven! I am brkattk on Keybase: https://keybase.io/brkattk/sigchain#57f7a06f445211d7d7b7d67475a869d9792ddeaf7a753759c2d1735b13aa966f0f

Let's talk about FOSS pitfalls for a bit.
A few days ago Redis Labs introduced Common Clause to some of add-on modules. The Common Clause adds additional restriction to their regular (IIRC, BSD) license: you can not sell it. Basically ending free usage by cloud providers.
In short: it's all about money. Redis Labs saw competition using their product and not paying for it. Not good.
The problem many saw is that Common Clause is technically not OSI compliant.
@moritzheiber I've been getting stuff on Google Opinion Rewards asking if i made a payment with credit vs debit. I guess deep down I figured as much
I wrote a post about how solving technical interop on the web needs to be coupled with "human" interop solutions: https://medium.com/@jorydotcom/the-meaning-of-interoperability-26e1c896a2d6

Remote Work
It's been almost a year since my company didn't renew the lease on our office space and went totally remote. I enjoy the freedom of being able to work from wherever I want, but also sort of miss the moral structure and sense of community that having dedicated office space provides. We were never expected to work from there, but being able to see your co-workers on a regular basis and have spontaneous little chats is valuable and made me take the 45 minute drive more often than not.
