I'm also on GNU Ring, but I'm a bit coy about handing out that address as it probably requires a real-time voice or video response. 😳

@lurak bad times! Out of interest, what exactly was broken?

I quite like the idea of a good decentralised alternative to Skype. Plus, it has clients for Windows, Mac, GNU/Linux, Android & iOS.

The linking between devices is a bit wonky imho. But I guess it's a required sacrifice.

@lurak That's a shame. I'm glad to say I've not had that problem.

@bobstechsite At the risk of sounding like a fanboy, I've had a great experience with both Signal and Wire even though they're not decentralized.

One of the tradeoffs of decentralized architecture is harder identity management. Ring seems pretty hard to use right now. I'm really curious to see how Bitmessage turns out.

@JonYoder I also have accounts on Signal and Telegram. Mostly because they have apps available through F-Droid 👍

I'm tempted to give wire a go, but currently waiting until it's possible for people to self-host their own Wire servers. They're getting there! medium.com/@wireapp/wire-serve
