An artist:

1. bought an Andy Warhol drawing for $20,000.
2. made 999 high-quality forgeries.
3. shuffled them.
4. sold each of the 1000 drawings for $250.

You might get the original $20,000 Warhol, but you’ll never know. This hurts my brain and I'm loving it!

It's a reasonable price for common art. No lottery. Nobody is ripped off. The artist profits hugely, yet gives away a unique item far below market value, but its receiver won't know.

It challenges our value system in very Warhol-way.

cooperatives *are* important, but they aren't competitive without strong community support and access to sufficient funding/capital. take a step back and think. you can't have these by wanting them. you gotta have a conversation about this within your culture and society. the people need to see the advantages. without that change in perspective, you'll be at a disadvantage relative to corporations in adjacent/overlapping markets.

“Hard times are coming, when we’ll be wanting the voices of writers who can see alternatives to how we live now, can see through our fear-stricken society and its obsessive technologies to other ways of being, and even imagine real grounds for hope. We’ll need writers who can remember freedom—poets, visionaries—realists of a larger reality.” - Ursula LeGuin

Well, That's an upside.

"Also of note: with this leaked data there is a way to take control of every internet-connected MakerBot printer owned by any user in this leak, with users unable to do anything about it."

I recently learned how much software is pre-installed on GitHub Actions workers. I'm a fan of the `setup-xxx` workflow patterns, so I always assumed that the workers were lean. Boy, was I wrong.

@GwenfarsGarden These days, I only tend to buy printed copies of books where there's something aesthetically appealing about the physical artefact, or where I can get it 2nd hand / cheaper than ebook. I've still got heaps of paper books that I've acquired over the years to work through, mind.

My local library system has a really good selection of ebooks these days, so I've read a fair amount of stuff in the last year through that too.

In all fairness, this pandemic is as much one of a savage virus as it is one of illiterate people.

Given the level of technology we have today, if your system does not provide adequate sustenance, accommodation, education, and healthcare for all, it is not because it can’t; it’s because it is designed not to.
